Crocheting is the method of creating fabric from woolen threads or yarn using a specially made needle-like hook called as crochet hook. The word Crochet owes its origin to the Middle French and its literal meaning is hook. Crocheting is quite similar to another art of creating fabric that is called Knitting; Crocheting is done by using a crochet hook and knitting is done by a needle.
In recent times Crocheting has earned lot of popularity in the fashion arena and also among people who are particularly found of creating laces and border patterns for clothes, dresses etc with their own hands. The art of Crocheting has now admirers all over the world and more and more numbers of people are now opting to learn Crocheting. Though the art of Crocheting requires minute detailing and one needs to invest a good amount of time to learn it thoroughly, the basics of Crocheting can be learnt from any good book or even a website.
Here are some instructions that would help you create a basic chain-stitch pattern. Material that you would require to get started would be – any good quality white or color yarn or woolen thread, Crochet hook of size G and A small scissors.
Steps for how to begin making a chain-stitch –
1. Create a slip knot on the crochet hook by holding the crochet hook in your right hand.
2. Slowly bring the thread or the yarn from back to the front in the manner that it comes over the crochet hook and then grab it with the hook.
3. Through a slip knot draw the hooked yarn; this would create one chain stitch.
4. Repeat steps 1, 2, 3 and 4 in series to continuously create chain stitches till you get the length you want.
If you are attempting to learn crochet for the very first time then you might feel the whole procedure a little complicated. But with some practice and lot of mistakes in the beginning, you will steer through the few basic crochet designs.
