Who doesn’t receive four to five emails from unknown senders everyday? Some try to make you buy something or subscribe to something while others ask you to click on a link. You should never reply to such emails.
The moment you respond to a hoax email, you provide the hackers with the chance of trying to get hold of your IP address. The IP address is a unique number that acts as an identification code for your computer on the Web. After obtaining your IP address, if hackers can decipher your passwords, they can access all the files saved on your computer. Hackers with criminal intentions thus can harm you severely.
Regularly updated anti-virus software can act as a guard against these, but may not be 100% successful every time.
Emails containing warnings about potential scams, especially those asking the receiver to forward the email, can be scams themselves. They may be the dodgiest of all emails and the receiver should stay away from them.
